The more I learn, the less I know about before

Digging deep for clues on higher ground

Yippee! I finally did one of the things I've always promise myself I'll do - I visited the museum!
I went to the Asian Civilisation Museum with Shane, a South African I met from frisbee. There are actually 2 ACM in S'pore. The original museum lies along Armenian Street (adjacent to Stamford Rd). Early this year, ACM was continued into Empress Place, at Boat Quay.
I used to wonder - "Do we really need so many museums in S'pore? S'pore is so small & record of history so short. Got things to fill so many museums meh??"
Well, now I think there isn't enough galleries & space devoted to do justice to the subjects in the museums. The ACM was amazing...or rather, I was amazed by the ACM. It displays as it's name says - the Civilisations of Asia. Which is aloooot. Asia is great - in vastness, in age, in cultural wealth, in cultural diversity. I luv reading about history (tho the numerical

A small museum like ours isn't enough to explain adequately Asia & its civiliation wonders.
I luv reading about history (tho the numerical collage of years & centuries totally lost me) & I luv poring over the intricacies of artifacts, paintings & carvings. I've only finished looking at like 20% of the stuff by closing time. I'm so gonna go back.
This visit sorta ties in with the book I'm reading now - "The Fortune-teller Told Me". I wonder, about my identity - as a Singapore national; as an ethnic Chinese; & as a South East Asian denizen. How true & worthy of these 3 identities am I?
Zap! You're a THUNDERSTORM.
Your temper comes fast and does maximum damage when it does.
Often you begin to grumble before you let your anger out.
Those who know you know to get the hell out of your way when you start to get upset.
Do you think you've found your soulmate? Do you have any notion what a soulmate is?
Says dictionary.com - a soulmate is "One of two persons compatible with each other in disposition, point of view, or sensitivity."
Says me - a soulmate is one who will suffer & understand my ramblings, & I his/hers. I think I've found one, or at least come close to one. (Or have I?)
Sad. I just found out I've lost the comment threads from some blogs in my archives. Grrr...repurcussion of messing round with blog skins & html, too often & too badly.
Oh well dear frens, your encouraging words / queer questions / funny lines (if they are really so encouraging / queer / funny ) will remain etched in my mind, even if they are lost in this vast bewildering cyberland.
Yippee...today's the start of my 1.5 week long break. Hmm, already, many of my days this week are booked. Man, I hope I won't just burn the days aways playing, but will get some productive work done as well.

I finally manage to go for Ultimate pickup yesterday. Felt kinda apprehensive, cos I haven't played for so long - rusty throws, pai seh to meet my team-mates. But, things turned out to be quite fun!
The field was really wet & muddy. As like most wet days, not many ppl came down. Which means each of us got more play time. Which also mean it would be a shagedelic game. Running on an open field, chasing a ball/disc is really fun. Running on an open field, chasing a ball/disc, trampling in muddy puddles, getting damp & dirty - that's really really FUN! I slipped & slided during a chase; so I was muddy head to toe. Even the white undies I was wearing turned muddy brown!
Spoke to 1 of my team-mates, Raphael. Told him how rotten I felt. He was encouraging &, maybe I won't quit the team afterall...
Made a new fren, Shane, a South African. He just reached S'pore from Taiwan on Sat, & he came all the way to Bishan Park to play frisbee on Sun. Wow...Had a great talk with him too. Irish Guiness, durians, jobs, studies, dreams...

I met my Ai Ren for dinner. Had great prata & kway teow goreng at The Roti Prata House in Upper Thomson Rd. Yum yum...After prata, we walked down the road, looking for a place to sit down & get a drink.
We walked, & walked, & walked...never quite finding a nice chill-out place. Upper Thomson road is lovely - its one of my most favourite places in S'pore. There's just an abundance of trees with long lush branches & oranged trunks that line the road. For a long long stretch, its only 'forest' by the side; even the buildings you get are low-rised and sparse. For such a broad road, the traffic is low- the cars really cruise along, nice & cool. It is, a beautiful aisle of a road.
So, my Ai Ren & I took a slow romantic stroll - past old Springleaf camp, past Mrs Ismail's house, past the road into Mandai Zoo, past Mt Pleasant Animal Clinic, past Sembawang Airbase, past Katib Camp, past 1st Guard Camp, past Chomp Pang Mac, pass AirDef Camp - all the way to Yishun Interchange (!). I said this was a very healthy dinner programme. He said 'Nay'. He figured the walk only burnt 100++ calories, wheras the plate of kway teow we had alone was already 300++ calories. Fine... =0(
Its impressive, wat a gentleman my Ai Ren has become. =0)
Then, I met up with Yaoming for supper at amk S11. Its funny - we met in NJ, but never talked; we met again in KR C-blk, but only talked briefly; but since bumping into each other in S11 in Sept, we've started to chat & crap. Cool...
Not easy, to find a friend post-sec-sch who lives so close to my place. Keke...I have a new supper buddy!
Whoa...I've got lotsa blog catching up to do.
Here's a recap...

2nd Dec, Tues It was Bowling Day for the coporate finance dept in ISOS (that's where I'm working at right now, for the uninitiated). Great fun! The whole dept got the afternoon off & we trooped down to Orchard Bowl at Cineleisure for a bowling competition. There was chartered buses, we wore ISOS blue polo tees, 20 ++ of us - it feels like a school excursion! Kinda weird tho, to be in a 'school excursion' in Orchard road!! I scored my highest bowling score ever - 90 pts. Keke...1st time, that I can throw the ball down the aisle straight & strike/near-strike, not purely out of luck.
This was followed by dinner @ Indochine. Wah...such a ambient place (ya know...dark dark, flickering tealights, riverfront, heavy cutleries, their icewater comes out from Evian bottles!!) Heard the dinner was $30plus per head. Sheesh...so expensive. I feel lucky - to be able to join the dept on such a fun day, & luck in all the freebies!

Sorry dudes...too sleepy to continue. Gonna sleep now. *yawn*
Been a hectic past 2 weeks, hence I haven't blog for so long.
Quite some meaningful stuff happened last week, & I've every intention to blog down them down, with joy & in fun.
But only just I've turned solemn, for certain things have showed up - which reminds me of the gravity & responsibilty life entails.
I shall write chronologically backwards.

Hmm, then again, I think I can't write much bout the past days. Impossible - to write happy stuff with a heavy heart.

Last Sunday, 8th Dec, one of the Ultimate players got struck by lightning while on the field and died in the hospital the next day. It is a freak accident, god-damn freak.
Its dumb, for the teams should never have continued playing if there were sighs of thundering & lightning. This is a very basic rule, isn't it?
Its scary, for it could have been anyone of us out there playing frisbee, & it reminds me of the very very fine line that actually stands between life & death, no matter your age, health or circumstance.
I'm sad, for its a fine young man who has died needlessly, & though I'm not sure who he is at this point of time, I could have played with him on the same field, in the same team, with the same disc, before. It's a tragedy for the S'pore Ultimate community - & despite my only-just entry & weak attendance, I do feel as a part of this community & regard this tragedy personally.
I'm shamed, for not having gone down for the games for so long, & not being there with everyone or even fully aware til today of what happened. It's not right of me to be part of a team & not contribute - I think I'm going to tell my captain I wanna withdraw from the team, since I don't think I can improve my commitment & schedule for the next 2 months & be a better player. Shape out or ship out, so to speak.

A Birthday wish came in from somebody today. Along with his golden ramblings.
"May 23 be an age for you to remember.
Each day that passes is a day less for you to
work to your goals.
365 days a years, 24 hours a day... for say 50
more years?
it's just too short to live life...
...We're no longer young, nor the way we used to
be...
No longer carefree 13 or wild spirited 15...no
longer vibrant 22... and if we're not careful 23
will breeze us pass with nothing significant for
us to grasp."
With these stark reminders banging at my door, have I not better value each day & life? CARPE DIEM!
